What is an upcycled garment?
Upcycling is a creative form of clothing reuse. Existing garments and textiles are redesigned and transformed into unique, higher-value pieces while preserving the qualities of the original materials.
What makes a Brave to Rave piece sustainable?
Brave to Rave pieces are created by reworking existing garments and textiles, meaning no new raw materials need to be produced – helping reduce textile waste in the process.
Each piece is made through an ethical, small-scale creative process with a significantly lower environmental impact than mass-produced fashion.
The sets are also designed to be versatile and wearable beyond festivals and raves, helping extend their lifespan through repeated use.
How do synthetic materials fit into sustainability?
Brave to Rave pieces may contain synthetic fibres – and this is a conscious, multi-layered decision.
The materials used for upcycled garments already exist, meaning Brave to Rave does not contribute to new textile production or additional manufacturing pollution. The goal is to keep as many textiles as possible from becoming waste.
Just like natural fabrics, synthetic materials come in many different qualities and are carefully selected at Brave to Rave.
Synthetic fibres such as polyester or elastane are not inherently “bad” – like any material, they have both beneficial and less beneficial properties. I use them intentionally, mostly for outer layers, looser silhouettes, and accessories.
Areas that sit closely against the skin always include a soft, skin-friendly natural layer (such as cotton or viscose) for comfort and better support.
For outdoor festivals and long-term wear, synthetic fabrics also offer practical advantages: durability, resistance to wear, wrinkle resistance, colour stability, and easy care.
Their wide variety of colours, textures, and patterns also creates more room for creativity, self-expression, and bold visual styling.
Where do the materials come from?
All materials are sourced exclusively second-hand – from thrift stores, vintage shops, and online resale platforms.
I often choose pieces that are damaged, imperfect, or no longer wearable in their original form, then transform them into something new and unique.
How do you know if a piece will fit you?
Each finished garment includes the most important measurements in the product description.
Most Brave to Rave designs are created with adjustable or flexible fits in mind, so they can work comfortably on different body types.
If you’re unsure about sizing, feel free to reach out through the Contact page or via Instagram DM — I’m happy to help you find the right fit.
What if you love a Brave to Rave set, but the size doesn’t work for you?
Send a message through the Contact page and share your idea.
If there’s leftover fabric available, we can check whether it’s possible to create a similar custom piece in your size.
How should you care for upcycled clothing?
Ethically handmade clothing deserves a little extra care, since it isn’t produced through industrial-scale manufacturing processes.
Machine washing on a delicate cycle is recommended. To protect the garment, wash it inside out in a laundry bag together with fabrics of similar colours and softness.
Can you return it?
If you’re unsure about sizing, fit, or anything else before purchasing, feel free to send a message through the Contact page. I’m always happy to help you choose a piece that truly works for you.
Important: if there’s any issue with your order after purchase, please contact me as soon as possible through the Contact page so we can find a solution together.
